Fishing in the Fort Myers and Naples Area

Fishing in the Fort Myers and Naples Area

Southwest Florida is the self-proclaimed fishing capital of the world. Saltwater fishing is extremely popular and, from offshore big game fish to inshore sports fish, there is always something fun to catch. (Just make sure you have an up-to-date fishing license!) Here are some of the best places to fish in Fort Myers and Naples.

Offshore Fishing
If you don’t have a boat and are looking for an affordable day of fishing offshore, try a party boat. Party boats like Captain Tony’s are large fishing boats that can carry up to 100 people to fish, but they rarely fill up that much, which gives you some of your own space! While you are much less likely to catch a game fish this way, you can catch plenty of grouper and snapper. TripAdvisor has plenty of suggestions for nice offshore charters, but one of the best is Reel Fish N Sea Deep Sea Fishing Charters, especially if you want to bring some home for dinner!

Inshore Fishing
Not all great Florida fish are 20+ miles offshore. From Naples Pier to the Fort Myers Beach Pier, there are plenty of great spots to catch redfish, tarpon, snapper, grouper, snook, sea trout, and more, depending on the year. The snook, tarpon, and redfish are especially popular! Snook and redfish are some of the only fish you have to catch to eat because they are game fish and are protected by strict laws that allow the population to grow (meaning more fish for everyon). There are a lot of great options and captains here in Fort Myers and Naples who all have their own spots to help you catch the fish you’re after, like Fishing Buddies Charters.

Fishing on Land
One of the nice things about Southwest Florida is you don’t need a boat to fish. There are plenty of places like Ding Darling, Naples Pier, or surf fishing on Naples Beach where you can catch fish on land. People have caught shark, snapper, and a couple grouper right on the Sanibel Fishing Pier near the lighthouse. If you don’t have a boat, have no fear, you can still catch a lot of the same fish as the inshore guys!

Don’t miss out on the world class fishing here in Southwest Florida! People come from all over the world to experience the variety of fishing options and great fresh seafood. Whether it’s offshore, inshore, or on land, Fort Myers and Naples have only the best to offer for local and visiting fishermen.
