Why the Holidays Are Better in Southwest Florida

We’re smack dab in the middle of the holiday season: a time for giving thanks, being with loved ones, and reflecting on everything we have to be grateful for. And for those of us who live in Southwest Florida, we have a little bit extra to be thankful for in the winter months. There are countless reasons we are happy to be spending our time down here, especially in the winter. Here are some of our favorite holiday-themed reasons why we love Southwest Florida!

Reason 1: Driveways never need shoveling.

Talk to any northerner about the winter and you’ll undoubtedly hear horror stories about spending hours shoveling the driveway, only to have another foot of snow get dumped on them the next day. It may sound far-fetched, but any neighbor who moved from the wicked north can attest that getting to leave the shovel behind is one of the most satisfying feelings when moving down south.

Reason 2: You don’t have to wait for warmer weather to play with your new gifts.

It might sound like a foreign concept, but children of all ages (from 1 to 92) who live in colder states can’t always play with their new toys during the holidays. Luckily for the kids (and kids at heart!) of Southwest Florida, this struggle is non-existent. When you unwrap that new fishing pole, you don’t need to wait for spring. Just take a few steps outside and cast away!

Reason 3: Christmas Palm trees!

Traditional Christmas trees are nice, but they can’t hold a candle to the flame that is the Christmas palm tree. Not only does it look amazing, it drums up feelings of both holiday cheer and a tropical wonderland. Plus, the Christmas palm tree won’t drop those pesky needles on the ground, making life easier for those of us responsible for clean-up.

Reason 4: Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house is only a simple drive.

In Southwest Florida, going to Grandma’s house for a wonderful holiday dinner is as simple as hoping in the car and taking a drive. For those who don’t live in a sunny paradise, the trip can be much more treacherous. Snow and ice can make a simple drive to Grandma’s into a harrowing white-knuckle thrill ride that will leave you feeling drained.

Reason 5: The lights!

Nothing fills the heart with holiday spirit like a beautiful light display. Glimmering lights have a special way of putting anyone in the holiday spirit. What could make those beautiful lights even better? How about when those beautiful lights are strung up on a beautiful ship? Southwest Florida residents are lucky enough to not only enjoy beautifully lit homes, but brilliantly light boats, yachts, and docks as well.

Southwest Florida is a year-round wonderland. Beautiful weather, sandy beaches, and warm water will put even the Grinchiest of Grinches in a chipper mood and the list above is only just the start. Whether you’re an angler, golfer, fitness fanatic, or just love the sun, Southwest Florida is where you need to be!
